Good News Everyone! CactusCon is this Friday and Saturday (September 29th and 30th) at the Phoenix Convention Center. And it gets better: tickets are free! In a nutshell, CactusCon is Arizona's version of DefCon, with tech talks and workshops where you can learn all kinds of interesting new skills. Several of us will be going, so if you see us there, say "Hi!" ~Kyle

At today's meeting we disassembled some servers and went over the various components inside them. Then we put them back together, and disbanded early to attend a tech talk by TI. We are now actively collecting dues as well, so please bring $15 to the next meeting.

Hello! My name is Kyle Boyer. I am the current president of HACKS. Here is what we went over at our first meeting: We will meet every Tuesday at 5:00 PM. Meetings will usually go until six or six thirty, depending on what we are doing. This coming Tuesday we will be taking apart old servers and attempting to fix any that have broken. In future weeks we will also be holding Linux workshops, where we will be going over how to use Ubuntu Linux, how to install software, and some command line basics. The exact dates for this are undecided, but will be as soon as we have the materials prepared. While the timeline is uncertain, we will eventually be running a minecraft server out of the HACKS room. This is pending the arrival of new hardware. If you have a project idea, but need a server to run it on, or if you are looking for a project to work on, contact an officer. At the moment, we are still getting everything up and running again after the summer, so resources are scarce, but that will slowly (and then hopefully quickly) change as time goes on. Dues are $15 per semester, and include access to build days, server space (once it is available) and workshops. If you can't make it on Tuesdays, don't worry. Once things get rolling, we may expand our hours. A summary of the meeting will also be posted on our website and sent out to the mailing list sometime after each meeting.
